The INAPAL industrial unit, designed in 2006 by Guedes + De Campos Architecture, is conceived as an architecture directly derived from its function, what can be described as a “product of the product.” The project is based on a structural and modular strategy that organizes an open layout, allowing both programmatic flexibility and industrial adaptability. 

A key aspect of the design is the envelope, developed through the use of a single material: a trapezoidal metal sheet. This versatile skin responds to multiple needs, enclosing, filtering light, and creating transparency, demonstrating an efficient and inventive approach inspired by the logic of industrial production and the concept of the ready-made.

The architects, trained at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto, are part of the Porto School tradition. Influenced by figures such as Álvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura, they embrace a philosophy of simplicity “menos é mais” (less is more). Their work reflects a commitment to minimal, essential forms, combined with ongoing experimentation in materials and construction methods, often drawing inspiration from industry, automation, and serial production.

Since collaborating in the mid-1990s, they have contributed to a new generation of Portuguese architects who reinterpret traditional architectural codes, moving beyond regionalism toward a more contemporary and globally relevant approach.
