House in a Garden, designed by Edition Office, is conceived as a dwelling immersed within the dense landscape of the Birrarung floodplain in Australia. The project draws on the sensory richness of living within nature, where vegetation, light, and seasonal change continuously shape spatial experience.

The house is organized as two distinct wings: one open and fluid for shared living, and one more enclosed for private retreat. Elevated into the canopy, the main living spaces are defined by soft timber elements that structure space without fully enclosing it, allowing interior life to remain closely connected to the surrounding garden.

At ground level, the building lightly engages the terrain, forming shaded voids and pockets where landscape and architecture interweave. Movement through the site is gradual and immersive, guided by vegetation and filtered views that shift between openness and enclosure. From within, the house is intimate and layered, with spaces softened by natural materials, planting, and framed openings. From outside, it appears more formal and composed, its presence alternating between solidity and permeability depending on perspective.

Environmental strategies, solar energy, heat pump systems, and natural cross-ventilation, reinforce the connection between dwelling and climate. Ultimately, the project explores how architecture can recede into its landscape, offering an experience of living with nature rather than apart from it.
