Trim House, designed by Robert Konieczny of KWK Promes, is a single-family house located in Vilnius, Lithuania. The project is defined by a strong conceptual approach, where architectural form emerges directly from regulatory constraints.

Originally planned as a larger building, the house had to be reduced by nearly 40% due to local zoning regulations limiting the footprint. This constraint led to the development of a compact, triangular plan, giving the project its name, Trim House, and shaping its distinctive geometry.

The spatial organization revolves around a central glazed courtyard, which acts as the heart of the house. This atrium brings natural light deep into the interior, enhances ventilation, and creates a strong visual and physical connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The ground floor accommodates the main living areas, while the upper level contains more private functions.

The project establishes a clear contrast between a solid, monolithic exterior and an open, transparent interior. While the outer shell provides a sense of privacy and protection, the inner spaces are fully oriented toward the courtyard and the surrounding garden.

Materially, the house is characterized by the use of concrete and glass, reinforcing both its sculptural presence and its spatial clarity. The compact form also allowed for a larger garden, improving the overall relationship between the house and its natural context.

Ultimately, Trim House demonstrates how architectural constraints can become a driving force for design, resulting in a highly rational yet expressive dwelling that balances privacy, openness, and connection to nature.
